Award winning actress Glenn Close and her entrepreneur husband, David Shaw have divorced quietly after nine years of marriage.
The divorce became official on August 18. It was filed in Maine's Cumberland Country, filing it under "irreconcilable marital difference," according the Portland Press Herald.
A representative that appears to be close to the couple said that the split was a mutual decision. "It was a mutual and amicable agreement," the source told USA Today.
Shaw is the founder and former chief executive of Idexx Laboratories, based in Westbrook. While Close has been nominated for six Academy Awards and has won three Emmys and three Tonys. The couple wed back in 2006.
They spent a lot of time in their home along the beach at Prouts Neck in Scarborough, Maine, where Close is an active participant of various fundraising programs. According to the legal papers filed, Close is currently living in New York while Shaw remained in Maine.
This is the third divorce for the 68 year old actress. Her first marriage was to Cabot Wade, a song writer and guitarist, they were wed in 1969 and divorced in 1971, after 2 years of marriage. Then she married businessman James Marlas in 1984, and after three years they filed for divorce. She was then romantically linked to numerous men, including actor Len Cariou and carpenter Steve Beers, whom she has a daughter with.
Close doesn't seem to have enough time to dwell on her third broken marriage as she is currently filming the sci-fi thriller 'What Happened to Monday?' alongside Willem Dafoe and Noomi Rapace. She recently wrapped the British post-apocalyptic zombie thriller, 'She Who Brings Gifts,' with Paddy Considine and Gemma Arterton.
She is also busy preparing for her return the the stage next year. She will be starring in the musical production 'Sunset Boulevard' in London.
