We always knew that Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 would be among 2015's most awaited films. One film marks the beginning of an epic new series of films, while the other serves as the thrilling conclusion to one of the biggest young adult crazes in recent years.
Both movies will no doubt be big draws at the holiday box office, but some new data from a recent survey shows just how huge these films really are. According to Piedmont Media Research, the company that conducted the study, the two films are the most anticipated upcoming releases in history.
Granted, the survey has only existed for the past five years, but the figures racked up by the two films are certainly impressive given the huge blockbusters that have screened in recent times. The company surveyed 3000 respondents to see what films they were most looking forward to. The results, published in Variety magazine, show the just how big the hype train is for these two films.
With a consumer engagement score of 514 out of 1000, Mockingjay Part 2 is the most anticipated film of all time. The Jennifer Lawrence fronted film narrowly edged out Disney's and Marvel Studios' superhero team up Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was the number two film with a rating of 509.
Star Wars, another Disney tent pole, comes in third with a score of 495. The data indicates that men are the most excited to see the film, with the rating among males hitting a staggering 553. Female engagement is also strong at 383.
"Those are huge numbers," said Joshua Lynn, president of Piedmont Media Research. "Every demographic is showing up for this."
Will these two films live up to the lofty expectations being placed upon them? We'll have to wait and see.
