Following Nina Dobrev's exit on "The Vampire Diaries" season 6, new speculations have been making the rounds on social media, claiming that the upcoming TVD season might be Ian Somerhalder's last depiction of his character as Damon Salvatore.
Reports say that Somerhalder has been giving hints on his Twitter feed and Instagram page, dropping clues about Damon Salvatore's farewell which might probably take place by the end of season 7.
The now-husband of 'Twilight' actress, Nikki Reed, has reportedly posted a close-up snapshot of his eyes and he captioned it "Looking into the future, Love Ian."
The actor also made a screenshot of TVD season 1, where the series was recognized as the #1 drama show in the television. He wrote, "The good old days... Look what was #1!!!!! Thank you for 6 years on the air!!!"

After Somerhalder's post, it appeared to some fans as an indication that the actor might also be leaving the show since his character Damon Salvatore will be nothing big without Dobrev's character, Elena Gilbert. Few speculations have also claimed that the actor might also want to try other acting opportunities outside 'The Vampire Diaries'.
While the fans are patiently waiting for the coming chapter of TVD, some of them are worried and bothered about Ian Somerhalder's rumored exit from the show.
Going back to the storyline, some spoilers added that Somerhalder's character will return to his old self, the bad-ass, bloodsucker and selfish kind of Damon, back when he was not yet in love with Elena.
Adding more fuel to the speculations, Somerhalder has reportedly sent a thank you tweet to his millions of followes on Twitter on Friday, August 28.
"Wow, I just realize that they're almost 6,000,000 of you. 10,000 short of 6 million amazing voices-that I am so proud to be part of." He wrote. "Thank you for the love, the support, the energy and the world-changing power that you have."

The seemingly farewell posts of the actor came just a few days after rumors sparked that the former TVD actress and Somerhalder's ex-girlfriend, Nina Dobrev, has refused to accept the comeback offer to the TVD.
Before "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will kick off in October, more hints about the upcoming season will be revealed soon.
