Former "The Vampire Diaries" actress, Nina Dobrev, who made her exit from the show last May, has made an emotional goodbye to her TVD character Elena Gilbert as she received her surfboard for the "TV Actress" award under the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards held on Sunday.
The 26-year old actress jokingly put hplastic vampire fangs before she formally started her speech. After she removed the fangs from her mouth, she said "That's right, I don't need these anymore."
She went on saying, "The last few months have been a pretty big change for me. Change, it's a scary word, or at least I used to think that, because it meant new beginnings. New beginnings with a future that was unknown. But change is necessary, necessary for you to grow and to learn and to better yourself."
Following her emotional farewell from TVD Season 6, her fans who have loved and supported Elena Gilbert's character were all saddened for the second time while listening to her seemingly 'no-turning-back' goodbye message.
The actress added that as her time being the Elena Gilbert in TVD, she looks back at everything with a "grateful heart" and she smiles. "Because just like my character, I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up."
With a little catch in her voice, she said "We've grown up, and over the last six years we've become women. These were six incredible years that I've had the pleasure of sharing with all of you guys. We wouldn't be here without you. I wouldn't be here without you."
Nina Dobrev also did not miss out thanking the creators of the show, Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, who changed her life by allowing her to be Elena Gilbert six years ago.
"The Vampire Diaries" was Dobrev's doorway to fame and countless opportunities in Hollywood. She ended her speech by thanking everyone and sharing her optimistic advice about change.
"So thank you guys, each and every single one of you. I love you and thank you for coming along with me on this amazing journey. Change is coming, so hold on and enjoy the ride. It's gonna be fun."
Nina Dobrev currently stars in her new movie "The Final Girls" which will be released in October 2015.
