Nike Tops Best Sports Footwear in the US, Skechers is Number Two

Nike, Skechers and Addidas are among the top three best-selling sports footwear in the US, with Nike retaining its number one spot.

Further, majority of the top shoes in the US all bear the Nike brand. These include the Nike Air Jordan 3, Nike Air Force 1 Low and Nike Free+ 2014.

Nike remains unbeatable, accounting for 62% of all the sports footwear sold in the US. Skechers follows the lead, owning 5% of the athletic shoes, while Adidas is in third place with 4.6%.

The remaining percentage is comprised of the brands ASICS and New Balance.

In the field of basketball, Nike is worn by the majority of players, especially in the NBA. Signature shoes of some NBA superstars have helped increase the sales and popularity of the brand.

Skechers' rank up has become controversial in the industry after it replaced Adidas in the second place. The rise in the company's profit is mainly due to its line of casual and walking footwear.

Other findings say that Skechers' growth is the result of people's desire to save money by choosing the cheaper option. More are settling for fashionable, casual shoes rather than buying thoroughly-engineered running shoes, which are more expensive.

Skechers is now adapting helpful marketing strategies to boost their reputation even further, by creating affordable yet appealing products targeted to different kinds of customers. The company is also improving its manufacturing sites and distribution centers.

Morgan Stanley acknowledges the progress of the footwear brand, with analysts saying that "The Skechers brand has evolved from a knock-off brand, to more one with its own looks and styles."

Skechers recruited famous singer Demi Lovato and professional football player Matt Kuchar to be the company's product ambassadors.

On the other hand, the iconic shoe brand Adidas earns $16 billion per year. It is more popular among soccer players, constituting 39% of all the soccer shoes sold. Kanye is the latest celebrity to launch its own Adidas line of shoes.
