Nutritional Supplements Can Help Protect The Eyes, Experts Says

Taking nutritional supplements and vitamins everyday can help protect the human vision as it can help reduce the risk of eye diseases, according to an eye care institute.

Maple Ridge Eye Care is raising awareness that people can still protect their eyes, even in a form of a food supplement. The agency said that if individuals failed to consume the daily recommended nutritious food for the protection of the eyes, they can still opt for supplements with enough nutritional value that can protect vision and reduce the risk of eye diseases, including aged- related macular degeneration.

Based on the study, people who ate at least three daily servings of bananas and other fruits has had a 36% lower risk of developing eye diseases and age-related macular degeneration. But the institute is totally aware that not all people can religiously follow the recommended servings. So, for those individuals who cannot eat fruits and vegetables everyday, the eye institute highly recommends to take nutritional supplements that are good for the eyes.

"When it comes to good eye health, it's not as simple as eating a few carrots," explained Dr. Hurlbert with Maple Ridge Eye Care, according to Digital Journal. "Nutrition can play an important role in reducing the risk for age-related macular degeneration. However, you need to eat at least three servings of fruit and vegetables each day, which for some people is easier said than done. That's one reason we increasingly recommend the use of nutritional supplements."

Dr Hurlbert highly recommended to check the label of the supplements. He said to look for the products with ingredients that are high in lutein, zinc and selenium. For extra protection from the conditions of glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration look for the brand with high in Vitamins B, C and E.

There are a lot of nutritional supplements for the eyes available in the market, but the Maple Ridge recommended that patients should seek advice from their eye doctors first to check the suitable products for them.
