Electronics company Nintendo has denied the ongoing rumors that the upcoming NX console will adopt the Android OS. The company clarifies that, "There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX."
The speculations began when a reputable Japanese newspaper, Nikkei, posted an article hinting that Nintendo will be developing a familiar setting for game developers.
The Japan-based enterprise also fostered a partnership with mobile developer DeNA to create mobile phone games, which further fueled suspicions of developing a device that is compatible with the Android system.
Since Android is popular and widely used not just by consumers but by those who create games and easily transfer existing titles too, it would also make sense to run the NX on the operating system.
However, it seems like this would be the only confirmed information fans will have about the upcoming console as Nintendo has not revealed any other details. They will not be featuring it at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and instead will provide information about the device in 2016.
Besides releasing video game titles and gaming equipment, Nintendo has also been paving the way for new opportunities, including featuring their existing titles on smartphones and tablets, and creating attractions for amusement parks.
They released the Wii U in 2012, which can support HD graphics. About 10 million units were sold worldwide, bringing the company to the top of the list of highest-earning video game developers.
The product is said to be a direct competitor for Microsoft's Xbox One and the Sony PlayStation 4.
They will be however participating in the E3 event this year, which is a conference participated by the biggest names and influencers in the tech and gaming industry.
Nintendo will also be hosting the World Championships, a competition which was last held in 1990.
