Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus VR, revealed at the Code Conference the amount gamers should have in order to experience the virtual reality technology. Those interested in buying the Rift headset would have to prepare at least $1,500.
The virtual reality gear will allow users to actually take feel like they're physically present in whatever they game they're playing, whether it's riding on roller coasters or walking through a haunted hospital.
Despite the promising attributes of the device, people still think that the $1,500 price that the CEO revealed is too expensive. But Iribe clarified that the amount does not only include their product.
"We are looking at an all-in price, if you have to go out and actually need to buy a new computer and you're going to buy the Rift ... at most you should be in that $1,500 range," Iribe said at during the event in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif last Wednesday.
The headset, which is similar to a pair of large ski goggles, will be available for around $350. Putting it on will simulate a 360-degree virtual environment.
The rest of the cost will go to a PC that has specifications compatible to the Rift and will be able to effectively display 3D images. According to the company, the computer should have at least the following: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 graphics card, Intel i5-4590 and 8GB RAM.
Besides price, there is another issue that people have with the Oculus Rift. Many who have experienced the device first-hand have reported to getting feelings of nausea, akin to sea sickness.
The company already announced that they are working on providing a solution for that as the device is still under development. They will be speaking more about the Oculus Rift at a San Francisco event on June 11.
