'Outlander' Series Update: Outlander Casts Richard Rankin for Season 2

In the last episode of Outlander, we saw Claire and Jamie shipping out to the open sea to escape the danger that follows them. And to add more good news, Claire is pregnant with Jamie's child! Now that Outlander Season 2 is looming closer, fans wonder what is instore for the love birds. What is known now is that the TV series has hired BBC One's drama actor Richard Rankin.

The Scottish actor is casted to play Outlander's Roger Wakefield. He is slated to play the adopted son of Reverend Wakefield. If you remember the Reverend, he was the local minister in Inverness.

The casting announcement came just days after Outlander earned three Golden Globe nominations for Best Drama, Best Supporting Actor (Tobias Menzies) and Best Actress (Caitriona Balfe). Show runner Ronald Moore emphasizes that Rankin's role in season 2 will be epic and plays a much bigger part. Season one "... was really Claire's story, which included certain issues and characters along the way. He certainly has a lot more material in the second season than in the first", he explains.

Alongside Rankin, season two newly casted actors consist of Lionel Lingelser. He will play King Lous XV. We will also be seeing Margaux Chatelie as Annalise de Marillac and Rosie Day as Mary Hawkins. Jamie's cousin Jared will be played by Robert Cavanagh. Stanley Weber as Le Comte St. Germaine and Dominique Piñon as Master Raymond.

What will Claire, played by Caitriona Balfe, and Jamie, played by Sam Heughan, encounter when they get to the shores of France? Hard core book lovers know but viewers all know for sure in the last few minutes when they set sail to the open sea that the pair is set out to change history and hopefully prevent the Jacobite revolution lead by Prince Charles.

These are comforting words from the Outlander showrunner. Surely, with Rankin's portfolio in drama, he'll fit right in, as reports indicated.
