Fox has given the green light for the series 'Shots Fired' and Sanaa Lathan will star in the event series.
Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will executive produce the 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine Television show. Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood will pen the series. Lathan who is also known for her acting in Love & Basketball has worked with Bythewoods before and this project is a reunion for the parties.
The timely event series titled 'Shots Fired' focuses on a racially charged environment, set in a small town in Tennessee. The BET Best Actress will play an investigator who is engrossed with the cases involved in racially charged shootings. She walks through the mess with a prosecutor sent to town by the Department of Justice. The two set out to investigate the web of public attention, media, debates and social unrest that comes alongside violent cases as they seek justice before the town gets destroyed and erupts into violence.
According to an earlier post, the series starts off with a shooting that involves an African-American police officer killing a white teenager in Tennessee.
Racially charged police shootings are a hot, raw, and sensitive topic and David Madden, Fox Entertainment president, describes the Bythewood's work as "...a profoundly moving portrayal of a timely and sensitive issue that pervades our culture at this very moment."

He goes on to say that the series is an important story to tell and at the same time it's a mystery-thriller that will make viewers jump off their seats, probably.
Madden has full faith in the creative team involved in the production as well as the leading lady, Sanaa Lathan.
Sanaa Lathan, an African-American actress also starred in The Best Man and Alien vs Predator.
Shots Fired is set to air in 2016, as reported online.
