Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford Reunited 42 Years After 'The Way We Were' Film

On Wednesday, December 9, the American actor, film director and producer - Robert Redford and the singer, songwriter and actress - Barbra Streisand, were on top of the world to see each other at a Women in Entertainment breakfast in Los Angeles - 42 years after Robert and Barbra Streisand first co-starred in the 1973 classic Hollywood romantic drama film - The Way We Were.

Barbra Streisand (the singer who has been nicknamed Queen of The Divas) and Robert Redford, who played lovers in the award winning classic film, looked as close as ever, as they posed for photos at the event, which honored Barbra Streisand's work of empowering women in Hollywood.

Other Hollywood big guns also attended the celebratory fete - including the cast of Keeping Up with the Kardashians - Kris Jenner, Selma Blair (American film, television and theater actress), the actress and singer - Lea Michele, Lena Dunham (writer and director of the independent film Tiny Furniture), and the American model, television personality and talk show host - Tyra Banks.

However, in the film The Way We Were, the 78 year old Robert Redford and the 73 year old Barbra Streisand, portrayed two individuals from decidedly different worlds. Robert Redford as Hubbell Gardiner, a carefree WASP with stylish good looks, while Barbra Streisand played Katie Morosky, an opinionated activist.

The premise of the film, involved both Katie and Hubbell losing communication and reconnecting over the course of the couple's lifetime. The film is still hailed as one of the greatest love stories in the American cinema.

Barbra Streisand stated at the time she presented Robert Redford with the award, "You never quite know what Robert Redford is really thinking, and that makes him fascinating to watch on screen. Bob understands the power of restraint. You're never going to get it all, and that's the secret, I think. That's the mystery. That's what makes you want to keep looking at Robert Redford."
