The new 'Star Wars' trilogy may not be taking the direction that George Lucas wanted to go, but that doesn't mean that fans will not enjoy it. The director recently spoke to Vulture, where he gave a brief reaction to the highly anticipated 'Episode VII.'
"I think the fans are going to love it," Lucas said of 'The Force Awakens.' "It's very much the kind of movie they've been looking for."
Based on the trailers and TV spots for the film, 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' certainly looks like it will be following a more adventurous storyline compared to the original trilogy. George Lucas had previously spoken to Vanity Fair on the real reason why he decided to part ways with Disney.
"The issue was ultimately, they looked at the stories and they said, 'We want to make something for the fans.' People don't actually realize it's actually a soap opera and it's all about family problems - it's not about spaceships," Lucas said. "So they decided they didn't want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing so I decided, 'Fine.'"
In addition to that, the director was clearly unhappy with the way people accepted the second 'Star Wars' trilogy he released. "You go to make a movie and all you do is get criticized," he said. "And it's not much fun. You can't experiment."
Disney may have been a bit cautious about following George Lucas' direction after fans disapproved of the 'Star Wars' prequels that told the story of Anakin Skywalker. Although 'The Force Awakens' is expected to explain what happened to Darth Vader's grandchildren, the film might push the storyline a little to the side to highlight the adventures of two new young heroes and a lost astromech droid.
'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will premiere on December 18
