In the Heart of the Sea is not looking so well during its preview alone. Is it because it's close to the debut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
It doesn't look like the sails are high for the Ron Howard movie. Critics predict that the movie will have a low debut rating. The film, which was budgeted under $100 million, draws a gloomy ending to what looks like a low-harvest year for Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. has mutliple film flops on their plates already which includes the high profiled ones such as Pan, San Andreas, Jupiter Ascending, and Mad Max: Fury Road. But out of those, only San Andreas and Mad Max: Fury Road, was able to cross over the $100 million mark.
Now, Warner Bros. is possibly crossing their fingers that Point Break will hit a high mark as its scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas.
Predictions show that In the Heart of the Sea might only hit the $13 million mark. Hopefully it aims higher after all the weight Chris Hemsworth lost in preparation for the film.
The movie starring Chris Hemworth as Owen Chase, plays the first mate of a whaling ship, called Essex, in the 19th Century. It's an inspiration from Herman Melville's Moby Dick. But the 2000 Nathaniel Philbrick film adaptation received mixed reviews.
Rotten Tomatoes scored it at a 51 percent.
The movie is expected to rake in about $15 million while it's slated its debut in over 3,000 theaters. It might be a high expectation but it's hopefully enough to hold the top place.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 follows a close second to In the Heart of the Sea after holding the fort strong for four weeks. Eventually ending at about $11 million for the weekend.
The movie still has a few weekends to cover, as reported.
