Dascha Polanco ‘OITNB’: Daya Facing Real-Life Legal Woes, Teen Girl Claims Polanco Physically Assaulted Her

Dascha Polanco, who plays Dayanara "Daya" Diaz in "Orange is the New Black," is one of the pivotal actresses on the Netflix flag show, playing a long-suffering inmate who becomes pregnant inside Litchfield after falling in love with one of the guards - but, unfortunately, Dascha Polanco from "OitNB" is now facing the possibility of being imprisoned for real.

It has come out that the actress was arrested last July after allegedly assaulting 17 year-old Michelle Cardona, and now Dascha Polanco from "OitNB" is facing four different counts of assault, as the plaintiff says Polanco punched her, pulled her hair and also scratched her nails on her.

According to Refinery29, Dascha Polanco from "OitNB" invited Cardona to her home in Upper Manhattan last summer, via text message, and once Cardona showed up, the actress attacked her, resulting in "bruising and redness to her face, scratches to her arms, and substantial pain," then being hospitalized for treatment.

Following these events, Dascha Polanco from "OITNB" was arrested on July 29, though it somehow escaped the press at the time; but earlier this week, the actress appeared in court and documents from that time were leaked.

"It's a setup to try to get money and it was tape-recorded," said Gerald Lefcourt, Polanco's defense lawyer, speaking about the charges his client is currently facing, via Vulture. "This young woman was trying to extort her to drop the case. We're confident the charges will be dismissed."

Page Six reports that won't be until January that Dascha Polanco from "OITNB" appears in court once more, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been a tough few days for the star: in fact, her first court date on the case, when she appeared at Manhattan's Criminal Court last Sunday, happened on her 33rd birthday.

For now, Dascha Polanco from "OITNB" was released without bail and was ordered by the judge to keep away from Cardona.
