The 2015 Game Awards proved to be a night to remember for CD Projekt Red. The Polish game studio was named Developer of the Year as they took home three trophies for their latest release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The game took home the top prize as it was named Game of the Year for 2015, beating off heavy hitting contenders like Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V: the Phantom Pain, and Bloodborne.
In the Role-Playing Game category, it also came out on top, once again topping Fallout and Bloodborne while also besting Obsidian Entertainment's CRPG throwback Pillars of Eternity and the current darling of the indie scene, Undertale.
The game was nominated for an additional 3 awards: Best Story, Best Performance, and Best Art Direction.
The latter category was won by Microsoft's Ori and the Blind Forest.
While the first two awards went to Her Story, a unique interactive mystery game composed of fictional police video tapes.
"Thank you to the gaming community for embracing this little low-key, avant garde video game," said actress Viva Seifert when accepting her best performance trophy.
The other big story from the night, was the absence of Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima. The beloved auteur's strained relationship with Japanese studio Konami dominated headlines for much of 2015, and it was at center of attention yet again last night.
"Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight's award ceremony to accept any awards," said Host Geoff Keighley towards the end of the broadcast.
The Phantom Pain, Kojima's final project with the studio, took home the prize for best action/adventure game.
