Van Helsing Vampire Hunter Drama Series Gets Picked Up By Syfy

We're seeing reboots, sequels and remakes everywhere and it won't be a surprise to see it continue to dominate the entertainment industry in the next two years. In an EW report, Syfy has picked up Van Helsing but with a gender-twist.

Syfy has acquired the rights to Van Helsing which will become a 13 episode drama television series about Vanessa Van Helsing. If you've seen the movies and read the books, Vanessa is the daughter of the legendary monster and vampire hunter - Abraham Van Helsing. So it's going to be a female lead taking on a man's job this time around. Chris Regina tells audience that this will be a reimagination of the classic Van Helsing tale featured in a more compelling way behind a complex heroine.

Vanessa wakes up five years later to find that the planet has been taken over by Vampires. And as with all monster-dominating stories, she will be humanity's last hope of survival. This will be quite different from Hugh Jackman's 2004 Van Helsing character. It also appears that Vanessa will be resurrected from her sleep, five years into the future, which is already an inkling that she will have an interesting past.

Dynamic TV is producing the series and the creative team behind FX's Fargo and AMC's Hell On Wheels are molding the creation of the show. Neil LaBute will be writing and directing the series.

Chad Oakes, the show's executive producer tells EW that Van Helsing represents a new mythology in science fiction as it challenges the traditional vampire rules. Van Helsing will be produced by Nomadic Pictures.

Van Helsing is set to start production in January 2016 in Vancouver, BC and expected to air in the fall of 2016. To get a preview of things to come, a snapshot can be seen here.

Syfy also produced Sharknado 3.
