Jack Black Opens Up About Losing His Older Brother to AIDS

Jack Black courageously opened up about the tragic death of his older sibling, Howard, who died of AIDS in 1989.

"Losing a family member is the worst thing I could imagine," 'Goosbumps' actor told Paradise. Black said the death of his brother happened slowly. All of his family member saw the condition of his brother worsening day by day. He said Howard was only 32 when he passed away and it felt like something "precious" was stolen from them.

The 'School of Rock' star said that his late brother play a major role in his passion for music. He said that Howard was the one who introduced him to music and influenced him to be a good musician.

During the interview he also revealed one of the reasons why he accepted the 'Goosebumps' project. Black said he has two sons, who are 7 and 9 that love watching spooky movies, so he feels that the combination of scary and comedy in the movie would be perfect to appeal to his own kids.

Black also spilled some details about his role in his current movie, "I play a guy with a dark past and a brilliant mind, wrestling with his own demons, literally." He said that it was actually a fun role, considering that it's about "forgiveness" and teaching viewers not to let anger and crave for revenge take over your emotions. However, he said "some of those darker emotions can be used to create great masterworks," which will be shown in the movie.

Black also shared some of his acting philosophy, which he considers just like a "drug." Throughout the years of success, he believed "You can only really make a career of what you like to do." He said, when he's out performing he set a mood that "felt like I connected with something emotional and real, I can't go to sleep that night. It really is a drug unlike anything else."
