Star Wars has proven that it has captured the hearts of many fans from different generations when 'Star Wars 1983' memorabilia were sold for unbelievably high amounts.
CNN reported that one of the items which did not get away from the eyes of the fans is the gold bikini that was worn by actress Carrie Fisher in the 1983 sequel 'The Return of the Jedi'. At an auction, the more than 30 year-old bikini was sold for $96,000, making it one of the most expensive two-piece suits in the world.
The costume was used by Carrie Fisher's character in the film when she was captured in the lair of Tatooine crime boss. The so-called slave outfit includes several chain links and a collar. The original designer of the costume Richard Miller has signed a letter of authenticity to prove that the item is indeed the original one used in the movie back in 1983.
Though still unknown, the bidder who spent a huge amount for the antique costume has showed surprising interest to the 'Star Wars' memorabilia.
Contrary to the bidder, Carrie Fisher was not so much interested in keeping the item. The now 58-year-old actress did not mind keeping the costume for herself but admitted that she enjoyed using it to fight with the alien mob boss.
"Why would I keep a stupid outfit like that? So that years later I could say to you I have it?" says Fisher.
The American actress who played the role of Princess Leia Organa in the original Star Wars trilogy will once again be seen on the big screen playing the same role for the episode 'The Force Awakens.'
The costume is not the most expensive item sold in the auction but the Leia's spaceship which was sold for $450,000. The item is a miniature model of the Blockade Runner which was first featured in the Star Wars 1977.
The upcoming film 'The Force Awakens' will be available on December 17 in the UK.
