Facebook Users Can Now Use A 7-Second Video Loop Profile Picture [WATCH]

Facebook has just unveiled a set of new features on their social media site which includes the addition of a 7-second video loop that can be used as a profile picture.

While the other parts of Facebook has been consistently undergoing updates, (like the Timeline and News Feed), the social networking site's profile aspects have been observed as constant and slow.

The move of Facebook to translate their profile pic into a more animated display will surely make the site more exciting and fun especially for people who are fan of exchanging their display picture from time to time.

Aigerim Shorman and Tony Hsieh, Facebook Product managers wrote in a Newsroom post that the new version of the profile picture will be a new experience for the users and will also increase the feel of a person's profile.

In a statement, Shorman stated to Techcrunch the story behind the new feature.

"Earlier this half [year] we were having a brainstorm, and sometimes you find a gem. One of my designers called me over [to look at an engineer's] Facebook at Work account. But his profile pic was moving," Shorman stated.

"I thought 'this is going to be a great expression opportunity.' It brought the profile to life. You got to know the person better. So we got inspired to create an option to create a profile video," the manager added.

The so called "profile video" will be composed of a maximum 7-second video clip which will play anytime a friend or a spectator will visit a person's profile. This can be a huge change if compared to the conventional stationary and motionless Facebook profile picture.

Aside from the video loop, other additional features for Facebook include the ability to use temporary profile pics, the choice to pin "Featured Photos" to the top of the profile, set of controls for About info with new 100 character Bio Field and a new design which make the profile videos/pictures appear at the center of a person's profile account.
