Helena Bonham Carter Finally Breaks Her Silence On Tim Burton Split

After announcing their split almost a year ago, Helena Bonham Carter finally broke her silence and talked about why her high-profile relationship with Tim Burton didn't work.

E! Online reports the 49-year-old actress opened up in an interview with Red Magazine saying that although their relationship didn't last forever, the former Hollywood couple still remained special for each other.

"I could write a thesis on what's happened and it is all-absorbing when a relationship breaks down, but I think we're coming through it, and I think we'll have something very precious still," she admitted. "Our relationship was always somewhat special, and I think it'll always remain special."

Carter met the film director on the set of his 2011 Planet of the Apes remake and lived together but weren't married. Reps announced their split on December 23, 2014 and released a statement saying they "separated amicably earlier this year and have continued to be friends and co-parent their children," 11-year-old Billy and 7-year-old Neil.

"We did find each other. And really, the mark of a successful relationship shouldn't be whether you're there forever after," Carter continued. "Sometimes you're not meant to be forever together. Sometimes you have to come to terms with the fact that that was it. But that was a gift, a massive gift. We gave each other children and a lot more else."

"And we might be better, and still be able to give to each other, but not necessarily living together," she added, "which we did by the way, because everyone seemed to think we didn't, but that was a load of myth."

The Sweeney Todd actress and the 57-year-old filmmaker both reside in neighbouring houses at Belsize Park in London.

Carter had previously revealed working with her partner was not that easy. "It's not without its pressures, working with Tim. It worked on AliceSweeney was very stressful, very hard on our relationship," she told The Guardian.

"He's a partner in our private life, but when he's directing, he's the boss," she said. "And maybe I confuse that."

Helena Bonham Carter is on the cover of Red magazine's November issue which will be available on October 1.
