When Marty McFly hopped in Doc Brown's DeLorean and went back to the future, one of the things he encountered was special 'perfect' bottle of Pepsi. The item was one of the many amusing bits of product placement found in the classic film's depiction of the year 2015.
With the big date of Marty's arrival fast approaching, it looks like Pepsi Perfect may soon be a reality. IGN is reporting that special, commemorative Pepsi models modelled after the ones seen in the film could be coming to store shelves this October.
In Back to The Future II, Marty visits the future on October 21, 2015 so it would make perfect sense for Pepsi to release the item around that time. Though the company has yet to confirm the existence of such a product, IGN says that 'reliable sources' have confirmed that something is in the works.
This wouldn't be the first time that a company has released a product that was once featured in the film. Back in 2011, Sportswear giant Nike released a limited edition sneaker dubbed the 'MAG'. Like Perfect Pepsi, the shoe made its appearance in Back to The Future II.
In the film, the hi-top trainers featured a unique 'power lacing system' that automatically tightened once the wearer slipped on the shoe. Nike's 2011 release didn't have this feature, but rumors have long swirled of an updated version that has it included.
Could October 21 be the date that both Pepsi Perfect and the new Nike Mags come out? You'll have to wait and see.
One thing we do know is to now expect any Back to the Future Films anytime soon. Creator Robert Zemeckis says that he would veto any attempts to make a sequel as long as he is still alive.
