The juice, made by Refresco Beverages US Inc. and sold under Walmart’s “Great Value” brand, was distributed in 8-ounce PET bottles in six-packs. The affected products have a UPC code of 0-78742-29655-5 and a “best if used by” date of December 28, 2024.

The recall was initiated on August 15, 2024, and classified by FDA as a “Class II” recall on August 23, 2024, indicating potential temporary or medically reversible health risks. The product was distributed across 30 states, including Alabama, Florida, Illinois, New York, and Texas, as well as in Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

Health Risks of Elevated Arsenic Levels
The recall followed findings of arsenic levels at 13.2 parts per billion (ppb), exceeding the FDA’s June 2023 guidance, which sets a 10 ppb limit. Arsenic is toxic, particularly to young children, potentially causing neurological effects. For adults, long-term exposure may increase the risk of cancer and cardiovascular issues.
The FDA advises consumers to dispose of the recalled juice or return it for a refund. While arsenic in food is a concern, the FDA recommends maintaining a varied diet to reduce potential risks.
