MTV Star Erik Roner Dies After Hitting Tree While Skydiving

Extreme sports performer Erik Roner died in a skydiving accident near Lake Tahoe, California. He died on Monday in a parachuting accident, according to authorities.

Roner was participating in a group of skydivers at the Squaw Valley Institute's annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, when he hit a tree and stuck high above the ground, Placer County Sheriff Edward Bonner said in a statement, as per NBC News.

According to the authorities, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"One of the skydivers impacted a tree while attempting to land and became entangled with the tree high above the ground," the office said to CNN. "Rescue personnel were able to remove the skydiver from the tree; however, he was pronounced deceased at the scene."

Other skydivers reportedly reached the ground safely.

The 39 year old, Roner lived in Tahoe City with his wife, Annika, and two children. . He gained fame on the MTV series 'Nitro Circus' and in 2012's 'Nitro Circus: The Movie.' Where he performed extreme sports and daredevil stunts.

Through a statement, the network said to NBC, "We at MTV and MTV2 are saddened to hear about Erik's passing, and will miss the boundless energy, fearlessness and good vibes he brought to our audience. Our hearts go out to his friends and family."

His fellow MTV star Johnny Knoxville tweeted on Monday, "You will be missed my friend."

Rob Faris, the channel's senior vice president of programming and production, also offer his sincere condolences. He said to CNN, "There are no words that can express this tremendous loss to the Outside Television family."

"Erik was not only a colleague, but also a personal friend, and it was a joy to watch him celebrate life on a daily basis," Faris said. "We are still trying to process this tragedy. Our hearts go out to his family."
