Scientists Find New Drug To Boost Immune System That Also Fights Kidney Cancer

Great news for those who are struggling with their immune system because there is now a drug that doesn't just boost it up and fight tumors, but also helps in fighting kidney cancer.

NewsMax reported on this new study that has brought so much hope to people suffering from kidney cancer. This drug is called Opdivo (nivolumab), and it was said to be even more effective than regular chemotherapy when it comes to reducing tumors and helping more people to survive the deadly disease.

This research was lead by Bristol-Myers Squibb, who is also responsible for the production of this drug. It is scheduled to be formally launched this Friday at the European Cancer Congress in Vienna. This research will also be published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The leader of this research, Dr. Padmanee Sharma said that these new findings are important and are clinically meaningful to patients including the people in the medical field. Sharma works at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Being a professional in the said institution, Dr. Sharma is hoping that this research will change how the treatment for patients will be approached, especially for those who are suffering from advanced kidney cancer and those whose disease have already progressed before they even begin treatment.

Based on their recent experimentation with the drug, patients who tried it observed significant improvements, deeming this drug as very promising. WebMD also supported this news with some detailed facts stating results showed that a greater proportion of patients  given Opdivo  had tumor shrinkage compared to those using chemotherapy, Afinitor.

Pharmacy Today confirms that this drug was even more effective than other cancer treatment. With fingers crossed, everybody is hoping that this solves kidney cancer.
