Before the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America, and Thor ever hit the big screen, there was Blade the Vampire Hunter. The character, played by Wesley Snipes, was one of Marvel Comics' first big movie stars and spawned a successful trilogy of films during its run in the late 90's and early 2000's.
It's been more than a decade since Snipes last stepped into the role in 2004's Blade: Trinity, and since then his Marvel cohorts have become the biggest name in blockbuster cinema thanks to the chart topping success of The Avengers and the rest of Marvel Studios' cinematic universe.
During a recent interview the Huffington Post to promote his new TV series The Player, Snipes was asked if there was a chance if he would ever return to the role. He responded by saying:
"There's always a possibility, you know. It's in Marvel's hands. They're controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it, I'm still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We'll see how it goes. I don't really know what's going to happen to it yet."
As for the possibility of Blade ever joining the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Snipes hinted that there is indeed a chance, acknowledging that crossovers have occurred in the comic books.
'That would be interesting. I mean, I know it's in the comic book. It would be interesting to see where they would place him and where he really would fit in. He's got to bite somebody. I don't know who he's going to bite.'
So there you have it. Blade may indeed return to the big screen one day. But we'll have to wait and see how this develops.
