'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' Earned $34 Million On First Day, Dylan O'Brien Overcomes 'Black Mass' of Johnny Depp

The highly anticipated action film 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' has earned $34 million during its initial release on Friday. With the strong domestic opening gross of the adventure film, many have predicted that movie will become a box office hit.

The 20th Century Fox film was able to overcome the "Black Mass" starring Johnny Depp and the film "Captive" featuring David Oyelowo at the box office weekend.

 The "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" is the sequel of the film "The Maze Runner" which is based on the bestselling books written by James Dashner. The lead character of the film Thomas played by Dylan O'Brien is fighting for their survival in a post-apocalyptic world.

After escaping out of the complex maze in the first film installation, Dylan O'Brien and his colleagues will be taken to the Scorch which will offer them new mindboggling obstacles. After discovering the powerful organization WCKD who put them inside the desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles.

Social media has contributed a lot to the success of the film. A few days before the showing of the "Maze Runner", the movie garnered around 3,000,000 Facebook likes. In fact, many have already predicted that the film will be a sure hit base on its popularity.

Senior Analyst at BoxOffice.com Phil Contrino explained the reason behind the success.

"'Maze Runner' can definitely take off if the core fan base is really happy and others are encouraged to see it based on strong social media attention," said Contrino.

 "Teens can boost a film really quickly or kill it fast. This one feels like it's being boosted," he added.

The casts of the film lead by Dylan O'Brien are also a major contributor. The actor has millions of followers on his social media accounts who have surely watched the movie.
