'Teen Wolf' Star Dylan O'Brien Talks About Running In 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials'

The sequel to the 2014 film adaptation of the James Dashner book 'The Maze Runner' will mark the return of Dylan O'Brien as quick-witted Thomas. The 'Teen Wolf' star admits to EW that he is excited about returning as the young maze runner in 'The Scorch Trials' because he wanted to do more sprinting.

Dylan O'Brien told Entertainment Weekly that he only needed director Wes Ball to answer one simple question before they started filming.

"I asked him how much running I had ahead of me," O'Brien said. "Even though I knew that the movie could take a different direction, I just love running."

The young actor may seem a bit forward with what he wants to do in 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,' but he admits he wasn't so sure about himself when he was younger.

"I was very shy," O'Brien said. "I would take piano lessons, but would never perform in the recitals."

All the lessons have eventually paid off. Dylan O'Brien eventually decided to pursue acting and landed a major role in the MTV hit series 'Teen Wolf.' However, O'Brien confirmed that there was still much to learn, most of which he learned while working on the show.

"It literally became my acting school, where I went every day for six months every year," he said of 'Teen Wolf.'

It looks like all the hard work was worth it. Dylan O'Brien's 'Maze Runner' costars couldn't stop praising the young star.

"He has a great emotional depth and he has great humor," Patricia Clarkson says of O'Brien. "Some young actors struggle with one or the other, and I think they're both easy for him. He has emotions at his fingertips."

'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' also stars 'Game of Thrones' alumni Thomas Brodie-Sanger, Aidan Gillen and Nathalie Emmanuel. The film is scheduled for release on September 18, 2015.
