Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry will pen songs for the upcoming theatrical production of SpongeBob SquarePants, called The SpongeBob Musical.
Aside from the American rock band Aerosmith, artists that will contribute songs for The SpongeBob Musical are David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Flaming Lips, John Legend and T.I.
In addition to the list are Lady Antebellum, Dirty Projectors, Panic! at the Disco, Plain White T's and They Might Be Giants.
The production of The SpongeBob Musical is slated to open in July 3, 2016 - and it will be held in the Chicago Oriental Theatre. The show's preview performances will begin on the 7th of June.
The American basic cable and satellite television network Nickelodeon will produce the upcoming The SpongeBob Musical.
David Zinn is in charge of the design team that includes scenic and costume design. The lighting design will be handled by Kevin Adams. Peter Nigriniand will do the projection design, and Walter Trarbach will manage the sound design of the event.
The American composer and conductor Tom Kitt will do the music supervision. No words were out yet from the production about who will cast the show, however, tickets will be available on October thru the website of the theater.
The SpongeBob Musical will be directed by Tina Landau.
Director Landau said in a statement, "We're taking our leads from the TV show, but this is an original story with an original design approach and original songs written just for the occasion by an amazing array of songwriters," Director Landau also said, "We will present the world of (SpongeBob's habitat) Bikini Bottom and its characters in a whole new way that can only be achieved in the live medium of the theater."
Furthermore Landau said,"I was drawn to this project not only for its wild theatrical possibility, but also because I felt SpongeBob, at its core, is a layered and hilarious ensemble comedy,"
