This may be the one bit of good news to come out of this whole Ashley Madison affair. Earlier today, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a potential TV show based on the disgraced adultery encouraging dating website is in the works.
Currently under the working title 'Thank You, Ashley Madison', the shows plot will focus on a woman who starts the business in a bid to provide for her family. The premise sounds similar to that of Showtime's 'Weeds', which featured Emmy Award Winner Mary-Louise Parker as a widowed suburban mom who resorts to dealing drugs in order to pay the bills.
According to THR, the Ashley Madison show will be published by Steven Marrs and Courtney Hazlett of OutEast entertainment. Former Justified scribe Jennifer Kennedy is writing the script together with Ian MacDonald of MarbleMedia.
"There are a lot of TV shows doing a great job of presenting marriage storylines in new ways, but what we're positing here is, what if there is a third lane to run in and what if you were honest about it?" Says Hazlett in the latest issue of the magazine.
"What if you didn't need a hack to have this conversation? Maybe this is where your life just is, and no shows on television are offering that."
The creators do mention that the show may eventually tackle the now infamous hacking scandal that has rocked the world. Last week, the information of nearly 33 million Ashley Madison accounts was leaked online by a hacking group known as Team Impact.
The hackers released this message to go along with the data:
"Avid Life Media has failed to take down Ashley Madison and Established Men, We have explained the fraud, deceit, and stupidity of ALM and their members. Now everyone gets to see their data.... Keep in mind the site is a scam with thousands of fake female profiles. See ashley madison fake profile lawsuit; 90-95% of actual users are male. Chances are your man signed up on the world's biggest affair site, but never had one. He just tried to. If that distinction matters."
