Facebook Updates 'Notes' Service, Adds New Features Similar to Medium

Facebook has silently rolled out an improved version of 'Notes', a tool that enables users to write blog posts and publish them on the social media site. The updated version of the Facebook feature is intended to motivate users to blog and share their write-ups.

The Notes feature which was initially released in 2006 was kept by the tech company for how many years. For a long time, Facebook has not issued updates for the said feature. After the social media site increased the number of characters that can be posted on status updates, the Notes platform was locked away by the company.

The service is which is similar to Medium is now easy to use with its extra added features. The multinational company finally felt the need to improve the service again to expand. The new version displays a large image area like a cover page at the top of the content. The design is also cleaner compared to the previous version.

The new and improved 'Notes' seems to behave like a blogging platform. A Facebook spokesperson revealed the main intention of the service.

"We're testing an update to Notes to make it easier for people to create and read longer-form stories on Facebook."

The social media site is currently testing the service with its new functionalities. Users can resize photos, tag people and add links and hashtags in the updated version. They can also share their notes to different audiences of their choice. Users can customize who can view their articles.

The new look shows clearer headlines accompanied by a broad cover photo. The service now looks like the Pulse of LinkedIn. The company is still testing the service to selected users.

Facebook Notes was founded by Evan Williams the former CEO of the rival social media platform Twitter. When the company completely rolls out the feature, the 1.44 billion monthly active users of the site will have the chance to share their ideas through a long post.
