Android Users More Loyal Than iOS Users

Google's Android OS has been found to have more users in terms of loyalty than Apple's iOS, based on the data collected through the span of a couple of years.

Smartphone users whose handsets ran on Android chose the same operating system when they buy a new device. According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners or CIRP, 82% retained Android, while 78% of iOS users remained loyal to Apple.

Behind the two, Windows has a remaining 19% of its users while Blackberry's loyal owners were at a sinking 4%.

Looking at the data where Apple was the prior phone brand and Android as the new system, it shows that 20% left Apple and transformed themselves to become Android users. While on the flipped side, 16% of those who owned iPhones were previously Android users.

Android is much more opted by first time buyers with 62% among such while Apple is behind Google with only 24% of the first timers.

The percentages were among the 4,000 individuals in quarterly surveys from July 2013 through June 2015 which were conducted in the United States.

Inertia was speculated by Mike Levin, CIRP partner and co-founder, to be a part of the reason why, though having no official declaration from the company, some chose to be loyal. Few of his words to Marketing Daily were, "There's a lot of ancillary factors like hardware and carrier." He continued to say, "But once you get to learn one [operating system], there's no need to learn another one."

Users switching from one carrier to another has been also found in the study to link with the changing of OS. For instance, T-Mobile or Sprint subscribers who shifted from iOS would probably choose Android, while Verizon or AT&T subscribers who transferred from Android would mind more having an iPhone.
