Despite slumping sales and declining interest, It seems that Apple is not yet ready to abandon its iconic music player.
Multiple outlets around the web are reporting that the Cupertino based tech giant is set to release their new lineup of iPods later today. The entire line up of devices, from the top of the line Touch, to the entry level Nano will be getting refreshed versions.
Popular Apple resource 9 to 5 Mac reports that the Nano and mid-level Shuffle will not be receiving new features. The two will instead be receiving new Dark Blue and Pink colour ways. While all three variants will be receiving a Gold colour variant similar to that of the iPhone 6 and Macbook.
The big feature changes are being reserved for the Touch. The updated version is said to have a speedier processor, and higher fidelity camera among other things. Here is 9 to 5's breakdown of what to expect when it hit shelves later today:
- Major camera upgrade from 5 megapixels to 8, matching the count on the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2.
- New 64-bit chip for faster operation and better graphics for gaming. Will also help it plow through future iOS versions beyond iOS 9.
- "M" chip from the iPhone for fitness, steps, and elevation tracking.
- Pre-loaded with iOS 8.4 and Apple Music following the June 30th launch.
- New 128GB model for $399, still starting at $199 for 16GB. There will also be a $299 model with 64GB of space.
The new line up of iPods matches the leaks that were reported earlier in July when an iTunes customer inadvertently accessed a newly updated version of the iTunes marketplace which featured listings for the new devices.
No new changes are being made to the devices' length, width, thickness or screen size. These new models should be available on Apple's official website later today.
