The Edge browser in Windows 10, which is the latest release included in Windows 10, is automatically set as the default browser in the newest OS release even if Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox was previously set before the upgrade.
The Mozilla team finds it hard to change the default programs in Windows 10 when "Express Install" is chosen during the upgrade. This option was said to aggressively set Mircrosoft's apps in place of the old default apps. Mozilla suggests to opt for "Custom Settings" instead and then select "Let me choose my default apps."
Chris Beard, the CEO of the Mozilla Corporation finds the act to be a threat to Mozilla Firefox.
"It now takes more than twice the number of mouse clicks, scrolling through content and some technical sophistication for people to reassert the choices they had previously made in earlier versions of Windows. It's confusing, hard to navigate and easy to get lost,"Mozilla CEO contends as posted on their blog.
To lead Firefox users back to the track, Mozilla published a video on Youtube which discusses how hard it is to change the default browser, which has now affected more than 14 million devices. Aside from the video, a guide can be found on the company's official blog site.
The browser would just ask to set it as the default in older versions of Windows, giving users the option to click "Yes". The simple and easy step has now become complicated in Windows 10. Users running on the OS need to manually change the preference on a settings screen to change the default browser which is tedious.
Beard's idea of reconsidering to change how preferred browser gets set was jilted by a Microsoft spokesperson, but the company is open to adjust the system when users are not contented with the latest release.
