Windows 10: Users Voice Out Privacy Issues With New Microsoft OS

A few days after its initial release, Windows 10 gained different reactions from users all over the world. At first, many have appreciated the newest operating system for its remarkable features like the virtual assistant Cortana and the improved web browser Edge. In just 24 hours, the company gained more than 14 million installs.

However, many are now complaining about the new operating system particularly about their compromised privacy due to the default settings of Windows 10. Criticisms regarding the settings that send the user's personal information to Microsoft are now flooding all over the internet.

Windows 10 has disabled the option to select security updates but has allowed Wi-Fi passwords sharing with online friends. Microsoft also uses bandwidth to upload data to other computers powered by the new operating system. The company does this by assigning a unique advertising ID to the user when the new OS is installed. The ID is connected to the email address registered to the company.

The tech company uses the gathered information from the users to personalize ads. But Microsoft claims that the harvested data will be used to teach Cortana to become a more effective assistant to each users. Personal information like data from email and text messages, who the user calls and the apps being used are among those that will be collected regularly.

Though Microsoft believes that the act is essential in making Windows 10 become more efficient, users dislike the company's invasion of their privacy. Despite the given ability of the users to regulate the data collection, critics are still skeptical about the act.

Some users think that Microsoft implemented rules and policies without providing clear instructions. The 45-page terms and policies of the company does not promote real transparency.

During the first few days of acquiring Windows 10, many expressed that they are satisfied with the new OS which was released last July 29.  Many were fascinated by the speed and quick responsiveness of the system.
