It has always been Channing Tatum that producer Lauren Shuler-Donner sought to star in the movie Gambit. After last week's reports that Tatum would exit the project, after failing to come in to terms studio Fox, the Magic Mike actor, Channing Tatum has closed a deal to officially be the 20th Century Fox's X-Men spinoff movie - Gambit.
Channing Tatum stated, "I would like to play Gambit. Gambit's my favorite," "I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real." "No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, 'cause I actually like his Gambit," Tatum also added, "But I've always lived around Cajun people." "Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He's a thief. He kind of rode the line."
There were reports that Channing Tatum and 20th Century Fox had a disagreement during their negotiations before, but the studio's representative said that it is a normal part of top-level talent deal making.
The people behind the American film studio, 20th Century Fox sees the extent of Tatum's involvement in the X-Men universe, and become Gambit, who is a mutant who harnesses kinetic energy. Gambit is also one of the anchor characters of the X-Men universe. Gambit's character is similar to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, where in the character Wolverine was able to anchor him his own movies and appear in numerous others. Hugh Jackman has been portraying Wolverine since 2000.
Lauren Shuler Donner, the X-Men producer, stated that she was 'dying' to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum.
Lauren Shuler Donner said, "That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story," Donner also said. 'He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."
