Disney's Live Action 'Tinker Bell' Movie Will Star Reese Witherspoon

Peter Pan's tiny blonde pixie is finally getting her own movie, with some help from a tiny blonde actress.

THR reports that Reese Witherspoon has just been confirmed to star in the Disney live action film about Neverland's favorite fairy Tinker Bell. The movie, which is simply titled 'Tink,' will be about a possible origin story like the 2014 hit 'Maleficent.'

In addition to playing a major role in the film, Witherspoon will also be producing it with 'Wild' partner Bruna Papandrea.

Although the project has not yet found a director, 'Finding Dory' script writer Victoria Strouse has been attached to write the screenplay.

Tinker Bell has gone a long way since she first appeared as a supporting character in the J.M. Barrie play. Her fame is largely attributed to Walt Disney's 1953 animated film 'Peter Pan.' The feisty little character was given top billing in the Disney Fairies franchise, and she starred in her own animated movie in 2008.

Tinker Bell, whose voice is usually just the sound of a tiny bell, was finally given a voice, which was provided by Mae Whitman.

The little fairy has previously appeared in two live action films. Julia Roberts played a red-haired Tink in 'Hook,' which starred Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan. French actress Ludivigne Sagnier portrayed the pixie in 2003's 'Peter Pan.'

Witherspoon is known for playing spirited characters in her movies. In 1996, she starred in 'Freeway,' an edgy film based loosely on the 'Little Red Riding Hood' fairy tale. She is best known for her portrayal of Elle Woods in the 'Legally Blonde' movies.

The actress was recently in the news for signing on to the astronaut drama 'Pale Blue Dot,' which she will also produce. Witherspoon's most recent project was the comedy 'Hot Pursuit,' which was released on May 8, 2015.
