‘The Last Ship’ and ‘The Country House’ Love It or Loathe It: The Musical Review

There are two things that happened in theater which may concern many musical enthusiasts. One is the singer-songwriter; Sting had reportedly joining the musical, "The Las Ship" and wrote the musical score for the play and the other one is, The County House was closed.

Sadly, the musical play, "The Last Ship" was not able to gather a good numbers of viewers and it was really sad to read a statement by Michael Riedel on his New York Post column on its Nov. 6 issue, it stated that the people are not coming to watch the musical because the show is not fun.

Contradict to the write-ups about the play, "The Last Ship" is effective but there are still definite book problems. The romance and the paternity tale are awkwardly caught in musical that it makes the play lose the town's identity but the musical is still touching.

The musical score that Sting had written is haunting and catchy as well, the staging is beautiful and the scope is very ambitious.

"The Last Ship" was the first musical of the season to have an origin musical score. The score was not based on a movie. Sting is also a plus factor because his presence can attract people to see the play. Sting must be given a good credit because of his participation and support for the musical. Those people who will watch the show because of Sting will eventually see the beauty of the musical.

On the other news, The Country House does not get any good reviews. Most people who watched it did not love it. The play was directed by Daniel Sullivan, produced by MTC and will feature Blythe Danner and Eric Lange.

Although, The Country House is not the brightest play, it is still good to know that MTC produced it because MTC is known for putting mix of revivals and ambitious works on their Broadway.
