DUPONT HAZARDOUS GAS LEAKAGE: FOUR WORKERS KILLED, ONE HOSPITALIZED [PHOTOS]

Dupont Four Killed- Due to the chemical leaked early Sunday morning, employees of Dupont were in danger. At least four were killed while the fifth employee was hospitalized and is expected to fully recover from the gas exposure.

The dangerous gas leakage happened in a chemical company at Dupont plant located at 11600 block of Strang Road. The workers involved respond to the leakage of methyl mercaptan around 4 a.m. Sunday according to Times.

Due to the hazardous chemical, Dupont four workers were killed. Two of the employees who died were siblings named Robert Tisnado, 39 and Gibby Tisnado, 48 Houston Chronicle reported.

Methyl mercaptan was used by the company in manufacturing insecticides and fungicides. It leaked into the air around 4 a.m. and was contained only after 6 a.m.

Aaron Woods, the spokesperson of Dupont that killed four workers told in a statement that they are going to do everything to determine the cause of the leakage to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The incident alarmed the whole vicinity and even the residential homes located near the plant. Randall Clements, plant manager claimed that one of the Dupont four employees killed in the gas leakage had been working with the company for 40 years while the newest was just employed eight months earlier.

Aside from the Dupont four workers killed in the gas leakage, a fifth worker was reported to be confined in Bayshore Hospital for examination and treatment. The said worker is so far in a stable condition.

Meanwhile the two other employees on-duty that day were declared safe from the gas exposure. Dupont four workers killed in the incident were exposed to gas methyl mercaptan, which is used by the crop protection unit.

Dupont plant sits on 800-acre complex with two separate units and employing 320 workers. It started its operation in 1947 and is manufacturing assorted chemicals used in various industries. The company is also the largest polyvinyl alcohol plant in the world as stated in the Dupont website.

Aside from the Dupont plant where four workers were killed, four other companies were situated in the complex of La Porte plant.
