Planters Recalls Almost 22,000 Packages of Honey Roasted Peanuts and Deluxe Mixed Nuts

It's time for yet another pantry check. Planters, one of the most popular nut brands in the world, is recalling two popular products due to possible Listeria contamination. We've got everything you need to know. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the voluntary recall initiated by Hormel Foods Corporation, which owns Planters. 

Recalled Planters Products

Here's a breakdown of the Planters products affected by the recall:

  • PLANTERS® Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts: 8.75 oz. cans (UPC 2900001621) packaged in metal corrugate cans with plastic lids. (12 cans per case)

  • PLANTERS® Honey Roasted Peanuts: 4 oz. packages (UPC 2900002097) packaged in flexible film pouches. (12 packages per case)

Where Were the Recalled Products Shipped?

The potentially contaminated nut products were only distributed to specific regions. They were sent to distribution centers in the following states:

- Florida (FL)
- Georgia (GA)
- Alabama (AL)
- North Carolina (NC)
- South Carolina (SC)

What to Do If You Have Recalled Planters Products

If you have either of the recalled Planters nut products in your pantry, throw them away immediately or return them to the store where you purchased them. Listeria contamination can cause serious illness, especially for pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.

Hormel's Other Recent Recalls

In February, Hormel Foods recalled almost 1,000 pounds of ready-to-eat spiced deli ham products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen. In 2018, they recalled over 228,000 pounds of canned pork and chicken products due to possible contamination with metal pieces. There have also been isolated recalls of other Planters products, such as pistachios in 2016, due to Salmonella concerns.
