Ok, we've got to talk about one of my all-time least favorite food combinations - mixing sweet flavors with meat. With the exception of spicy orange chicken over some fried rice doused in soy sauce, I'm out on the sweet meats.
However, a few years ago at a tasting event, I reluctantly tried a burger on a glazed donut from Welcome Diner in Phoenix. It blew my mind. Perhaps it was the fact that a cloyingly sweet sauce didn't ruin the meat itself, but the combination was indulgent - decadent, even.
So when I saw news of a new Beignet Cheeseburger Slider from Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux, I got pretty excited.
A Louisiana Love Letter on a Bun
The Beignet Cheeseburger Sliders are made with hand-pattied burgers topped off with cheddar and crispy bacon, then nestled between a French-Creole staple - beignets. They're accompanied by a side of sweet potato fries, which is the perfect way to round out this sweet and savory marriage.
Walk-On's says it sells about 8,000 sliders a week and has seen a growing popularity for its beignet bites from customers around the country. With 75 locations nationwide, there might just be a location where you can grab one of these delicious delights, which debut on May 6.
