Nurse Struck Off After Dropping A Baby While Trying To Buy Vodka

A drunken nurse has been struck off after she dropped head first a four month old boy while trying to buy a vodka.

Rachel Lynn, 38, from Balloch, Highlands was seen by a couple that she dropped a child, who fell head first to the ground. The couple said they were in the garden when they heard the sound of a "distressed baby." The husband said, he checked where the sound is coming from and saw Rachel holding the baby by the "ankles over her left shoulder with her left hand, while holding the pram with her right hand."

Then his wife looked over and both of them "saw Ms Lynn let go of the baby, who fell head first onto the road surface before flopping over." After witnessing the horrific incident, the couple went over to assist Rachel. The husband remarked to the police officials that "Ms Lynn was 'out of it' and 'appeared to be looking right through him."

Authorities detected a smell of alcohol from Rachel, noting "that she was slurring her words."

The child was taken to a hospital and suffered an 11cm fracture in his skull, but was discharged few days later after receiving all of the necessary medical treatment.

The incident occurred in June last year while she was employed in the Raigmore Hospital, Inverness as a theatre nurse. She also pleaded guilty to a charge of willfully ill-treating a young boy in January.

Nursing and Midwifery Council investigated the incidents, after a thorough investigation the panel concluded that "her fitness to practise was currently impaired and she was struck off in the public interest." The panel added the Ms Lynn was a "harm" to others, including to herself when she is in the influence of alcohol.

According to the Telegraph, Ms Lynn was not present during the hearing and not represented in her absence.
