Sharing the Bed With Your Pet Will Help You Sleep Better, Study Says

Good news to pet lovers!

A new study shows that those who let their pets stay on their bed get a good sleep at night. This was confirmed by the survey conducted by the Center for Sleep Medicine at the Mayo Clinic.

According to the study, people who sleep with their pets feel that they are secure giving them a sound sleep and good rest. Contrary to what most health experts say, pets do not disturb their owners during sleep but instead serve as their guardian.

The study was conducted by surveying 150 patients who were asked to answer questions concerning their pets. The subjects were interviewed about their sleeping habits and the behavior of their animal companion.

Half of the participants have their own pet at home. Out of the total number of subjects, 56% permit their pets to stay or sleep with them on their bed during night time. From the said number, 41% claimed that their pets do not disturb their beauty rest. The subjects also stated that they feel more secure and relax with their pets around.

Dr. Lois Krahn who is a sleep medicine specialist from Mayo Clinic Center for Sleep Medicine explained the study.

"[Some people] find that sleeping with their animal actually helps them feel cozy. One woman said her two small dogs kind of warmed her bed. Another person felt her cat who was touching her during the night was comforting and soothing," Krahn stated.

Some of the participants who had complaints about their animal companion were found to have more than one pet in their home which of course can bring chaos.

Khran believes that the pets are quiet at night when they see their owner quiet. Out of the 150 participants, only five complained that their pets disturb their sleep.
