The Ninth Doctor Is Getting His Own Monthly 'Doctor Who' Comic Book Series

The Ninth Doctor may have only appeared in one short but brilliant series, but there is no doubt that Christopher Eccleston's version of the Time Lord is probably one of the most beloved 'Doctor Who' incarnations. Nine had kickstarted the return of the popular show in 2005 and has even become the third most popular Doctor according to the 'Doctor Who' magazine.

The love for the Ninth Doctor eventually gave birth to a five-part comic book miniseries from Titan Comics that featured Nine together with his companions Rose Tyler and Captain Jack Harkness, a reunion that fans immediately approved of. 'Weapons of Past Destruction' was written by Cavan Scott and illustrated by Blair Shedd and has just concluded last week. However, fans of the Nine Doctor have a completely new reason to celebrate.

According to io9, the Ninth Doctor will star in his own ongoing monthly comic book series. Titan Comics has announced that Cavan Scott will continue writing Nine's adventure and artist Adriana Melo will work on the first three-part story.

The Ninth Doctor isn't the only one who has his own comic book series. David Tennant's Tenth Doctor as well as Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor both has their own series, and Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor recently got his own comics as well. There are also rumors that the Eighth Doctor might get his own comic book series as well.

The popularity of the Ninth Doctor might stem from Christopher Eccleston's portrayal of the Time Lord being less eccentric compared to the previous Doctors. Rather than wear the flamboyant clothes associated with 'Doctor Who,' the actor opted for a black leather jacket and jeans to be the Ninth Doctor's signature look. Since then, the different incarnations of the Doctor were distinctly different from the ones before them.

The Ninth Doctor's monthly comic book series will be released by Titan Comics in April 2016.
