Apple is going to remove the headphone jack of their upcoming iPhone device, recent rumors say.
The American multinational company is planning to ditch the 3.5 mm headphone jack on their latest iPhone model. As what several reports have said, the said jack will be replaced by an all-in-one Lightning connector for a more advance iPhone experience.
According to Mac Otakara, a Japanese technology site, the tech giant known for its quality products is about to replace their headsets into a new set of Lightning-based technology headphones.
This means that Apple will now use headphone-based DACs and app launching as they take advantage of the Lightning's features. Aside from that, the company is also rumored to feature Bluetooth headphones for their upcoming device.
DAC or digital to audio converter is the technology that will be used in order to achieve backward compatibility with the wired headphones which use a standard 3.5 mm stereo jack. In order to fully operate, a 3.55 mm Lightning adapter would be essential.
Aside from the jackless headphones, Apple is also rumored to release new sets of EarPods which will also be powered by Lightning technology. The said device will be included in the iPhone 7 package but will be retailed independently for other iOS products.
Last June 2014, it can be remembered that Apple first announced a new MFi Program specifications. The said program allows third party companies to manufacture headphones that can connect to an iOS device thru the use of a Lightning cable. For the past months, Phillips has released several Lightning-powered headphones such as the Fidelio M2L and Fidelio NCIL.
If the rumored information is true, the new iPhone 7 will be 1mm thinner compared to the iPhone 6s said by Engadget.
Furthermore, although the new feature sounds fantastic, some audiophiles stated that having a Lightning based headphones also brings some disadvantages.
