The Original Stories Behind Some Disney Princess Fairytale Movies

Everybody's familiar with the Disney princess fairytale movies, but not all know the real stories behind each of them.

You would be surprised to know that the Disney Princess fairytale movies' original stories aren't so pleasing or fairytale-like at all! Here are some worth reading.

1. The Little Mermaid is a story about a mermaid named Ariel who fell in love with Prince Eric, a human. After learning about this her father forbade her to get near Eric because of a traumatizing past. Because of her love for Eric, she gave up her beautiful voice to Ursula the evil sea witch in exchange for a pair of human legs to win the prince's heart.

In the original story, the prince fell in love with a different girl which crushed the little mermaid's heart. When Ariel made a deal with the sea witch, she was presented with two scenarios: If she can't win the prince's heart, she'll die and if she kills the prince, she'll become a mermaid again. In the end Ariel killed herself and drifted away as sea foam.

2. Pocahontas is a story about an American Indian girl named Pocahontas who fell in love with an English captain named John Smith. Pocahontas' father disapproved of their relationship because he wanted her to marry a native warrior. On the other hand John Smith's fellow Englishmen planned on robbing the Native American for their gold. The love that Pocahontas had for John Smith saved his life.

The original story of Pocahontas, she was captured and was held hostage for a year by the Englishmen. They renamed her Rebecca and used her as a propaganda tool. At 21, Pocahontas died.

3. There were many versions of Rapunzel but the part of her letting down her long golden hair from the tower was never changed. The latest Rapunzel was about this girl who was also the missing princess who had a long golden hair that has a magical effect when a song was sang to it. She had always wanted to see the floating lights that only appeared on her birthday. Then came her knight in shining armor that helped her to finally see the floating lights. They fell in love with each other and lived happily ever after.

In the original Rapunzel story, they never really get to live a happy ending. Mother Gothel told Rapunzel's knight in shining armor that he will never be able to see her again. Upon hearing this, he then jumped out of the window from the tower and got blinded by the thorns.

4. Cinderella is a story about a girl who was abused by her step-mother and step-sisters after her father died. Her wish of being in the ball was made true by her Fairy god Mother as she was given a beautiful dress and a pair of glass slippers that would only last until 12 o'clock. When the clock struck 12, she rushed out of the castle leaving one of glass slippers behind. The prince searched everywhere for her and when found, he immediately married her.

In the original version of Cinderella, when the prince searched for the owner of the glass slipper, Cinderella's step sisters went to the next level of desperation. They each cut of their toes or heel so that there foot would fit in the slipper. Unfortunately none of those worked. The prince was able to find Cinderella and when they got married, Cinderella's magic birds pecked out her step-sisters' eyes to punish them.
