Dolly Parton: My Childhood Made Me Everything I Am Today

Dolly Parton opened up about her childhood and how she growing up poor taught her a lot of lessons in life.

The 69-year-old singer talked about what she have gone through while she was growing up, she had 11 siblings and their whole family lived in a small cabin in Tennessee. Being a big family living in a one-room cabin was hard enough, she said. Her parents struggled in feeding them and keeping all of them healthy during those times, they struggled financially and Dolly considered those times as something to live up to. She said that she wouldn't change a single bit of her childhood memories even if she was given the chance to because it made her appreciate more of what she has now.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight she said that she will always be looking back to where she came from for it had "made her everything she is today"

"I think my childhood made me everything I am today, I would trade nothing for being brought up in the Great Smoky Mountains. I've never been ashamed of my people, no matter how poor or dirty we might have been. I've always loved being from where I am, and having the folks that I've had."

Dolly Parton first started her career as a child performer on the Cas Walker Radio when she was 18, then she moved to Nashville and found a job as a songwriter. Time passed by and she was able to gain success as a solo artist and traveled around the world performing her famous tracks and records.

Her inspiring story, where she came from a struggling family and became one of the most well-known singer/song-writer will be on TV called 'Dolly Parton's coat of many colors' in which it was named after her favorite song. The movie will focus on what she had gone through at a very young age and how she learned to overcome the struggles in her life.
