Jennifer Lawrence Will Direct a Film on 'Mental Warfare in the 60s'

Jennifer Lawrence, the actress of the American dystopian science fiction adventure film Hunger Games, only took a few years to smash both the box office and the Academy Awards, so it's not surprising that the actress is exploring a new creative frontier - filmmaking. Jennifer Lawrence confirmed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, that she's signed on to direct a film entitled Project Delirium.

Jennifer Lawrence stated, "It's based on this article about mental warfare in the '60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong," Lawrence also said, "It's funny, I've always desired to helm since I was 16 years old and always thought I should start making steps towards that. If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn't have been ready. Now I actually feel ready."

Jennifer Lawrence also expressed interest in helming a comedy flick at some point, an interest that's expected given her work on a screenplay with  American stand-up comedian - Amy Schumer.

There are media outlets that have linked the Project Delirium of Jennifer Lawrence to her statement about making a comedy, however, the connection between Jennifer Lawrence and the project hasn't been confirmed.

Based on Jennifer Lawrence's spoken representation of the idea, it seems like the actress is talking about "Operation Delirium," an extended 2012 piece in the American magazine The New Yorker, which is about a psychochemical experimentation program that happen in Maryland during the Cold War. It doesn't exactly sound like comedic fodder, but it seems that Jennifer Lawrence could be working on some madcap, druggy interpretation of the piece.

Lawrence has been confident in expressing her interest in film direction in recent years. Jennifer Lawrence talked about the matter backstage after winning a Golden Globe for American Hustle (American black comedy crime film) last year, and a bunch of Lawrence's recent Vogue cover story was devoted to her fascination with the field.

However, Jennifer Lawrence is not so interested in producing a film, the actress said that, "I want to direct. But I would rather just do it than talk about it."
