Stedman Bailey Shot In The Head Twice: Rams Wide Receiver In Critical Condition

Stedman Bailey, who plays wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams, was shot twice in the head on Tuesday evening while driving with family. And after undergoing surgery, he is currently in the hospital in critical but stable condition.

NFL.com reports Stedman's cousin was also shot and is suffering from life-threatening injuries. Details surrounding the shooting are unclear, though the football pro is cooperating with authorities.

On the night of November 24, Stedman Bailey and three of his family members were driving in Miami Gardens, Florida. Another car, reports NFL.com, pulled up next to Stedman and opened fire. During the attack, Stedman took two shots to his head and bullets also struck his cousin.

His team released a statement following the incident, reading, "We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."

While Stedman Bailey is in critical but stable condition, his cousin is reportedly battling “life-threatening” injuries. Sadly, the shooter’s identity is still unknown at the time. Stedman is cooperating with the authorities in hopes to bring this attacker to justice.

Stedman Bailey underwent surgery and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Bailey is out of surgery after several hours, and he'll remain in the ICU for 3-5 days. "Doctors are hopeful," per Rapoport.

Stedman Bailey is a Florida native. He grew up in the town of Miramar, which is reportedly close to the shooting’s location.

At the time of the attack, Stedman was serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, reports NFL.com. He has been a Ram since 2013, when he was the No. 92 pick during that year’s NFL Draft.
