Speaking at the AFI Fest (American Film Institute), Ridley Scott opened up about what Blade Runner 2 will look like. Picture Harrison Ford and a massive dead tree.
He opens with, "We decided to start the film off with the original starting block of the original film." He loves the thought of a dystopian universe and describes starting the film with a factory farm - a flat land with farming.
"Picture a flat Wyoming landscape with a massive dead tree in the middle. And not too far in the distance, would be a small Grapes of Wrath type cottage and behind it, at a distance of two miles, in the twilight, is this massive combine harvester that's fertilizing this ground", he describes.
Then comes in Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard who arrives at the cottage in a flying car and patiently waits for a 350 pound man. "The guy's seen him, so the guy pulls the combine behind the cottage and it towers three stories above it, and the man climbs down from the ladder", he continues as described in Slash Film. The big guy lands on the balcony and goes to Ford - and Scott just ends right then and there suddenly telling everybody at AFI Fest " - You'll have to go see the movie." Oh, Scott. Such a tease.
Sadly, Ridley Scott is not joining the Blade Runner sequel. In his place, Denis Villeneuve will be heading the film and of course, Harrison Ford returns to the Blade Runner scene as Deckard with Ryan Gosling in a new upcoming role with no further information as of yet. Production of the film will start in 2016.
What is known for sure is Hampton Francher - the original writer from the first movie - wrote the sequel, as posted in EW.
