IBM has released an app that can predict what the trending products are for the coming holidays, according to Ad Age. Called the 'IBM Watson Trend' it uses cognitive computing to identify trends which will surely come in handy with the inevitable Christmas shopping that everyone will be doing in the next month.
Everyone will be busy scouring stores for the best gift to buy their kids, parents, friends and special someones. But aside from the Christmas rush that people want to avoid, many want to prevent having to go through a number of stores just to look for that one gift and find that it's been sold out everywhere. Some may resort to buying gifts for Christmas early, but with this the risk that these items may not be popular anymore in December is one that they have no choice to take. Not anymore with the IBM Watson Trend.
Using online conversations from social media sites, blogs, forums, reviews and ratings, the Watson Trend app will give you a look into how consumers feel about certain products. This goes beyond just providing you the products' current ranking, according the Forbes. Aside from this the app also uses predictive analytics to identify if a trend will endure or just be a fad after a period of time.
Now, consumers can check in on what trends will stay popular for the Christmas season and buy these in advance before the Christmas rush and before stocks run out at stores.
Some examples that the app has given for consumers are: Lego Star Wars, Lego City and Lego Friends being the 'It' toys for the season; Edutainment toys being popular among parents; and buyers considering color and design on top of versatility and use when it comes to buying Nike shoes.
With the help of the IBM Watson Trend, more buyers can now make a more informed buying decision which will not only give their money's worth but will make their recipients certainly happy with their gifts.
